The National Silent Witness Initiative is a domestic violence memorial and awareness campaign.
We currently have 11 Witnesses, life-size red silhouettes with breastplates that tell the story of a woman from
our communities that died at the hands of an abusive partner. The Witnesses can be used at events such as the Take
Back the Night Rally and are posted in public spaces, such as in court. It is our goal to have 20 Witnesses by August
2006.
If you or someone you know would like to witness, if you wish to donate
$100 to create a new witness, or if you have an event where you would like to have the silent witnesses, please contact us.
Info Sharing :
The local task forces strive to network their resources and develop
means of internal and external information sharing. Additionally, we have created weekly study groups on the fundamental causes
of violence to deepen a discussion about violence in our community.
Other Projects Include but are not limited to :
Introducing problem-solving and new alternatives to punishment (Peer Mediation & Restorative
Discipline) into local schools
Neighborhood Organizing
Healing circles to give those affected by the hurricanes a healthy outlet for their traumatic
experiences
Assisting the Lafayette Violence Against Women Task Force in creating a Family Justice
Center
Assisting the People's Hurricane Coalition in insuring that poor and low income families
have a voice in human rights and the decision-making process

Everybody can be great... because anybody can serve.
You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need
a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love. - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
