The Acadiana Task Force met on June 1st for its monthly meeting and set some yearly goals as well as determining some internal leadership for the upcoming year. Mrs. Cindy Brown is the new media outreach contact for the ATF and Ms. Veronica Francis is the new secretary. The position of Acadiana Task Force chairman has yet to be filled. The ATF will nominate and decide who will take this position in the next couple of meetings. The meeting went very well and the Task Force figured out some yearly goals that seemed to represent the areas of concern for the group's members:

1)The recent Violence Prevention Expo was a huge success and should be easily duplicated for the upcoming year. We will most likely have the same speaker and focus on the same age group for our target audience.

2)The Task Force wants to put together an inter-agency expo that would be held next April. More details will begin to come together as the group meets in the upcoming months.

3)The group decided that it would like to form a youth component to compliment the work that we already do in our respective organizations. The Youth Task Force could also be used to obtain new ideas and information on how to combat violence within schools and make our communities safer for children growing up in Louisiana.

The ATF meets on the first Thursday of each month, from 12-130 at the Sheriff's Training Center.

The Acadiana Task Force met on August 3rd for its monthly meeting and discussed yearly goals as well as recruitment and smaller projects for the upcoming year.  The position of the Acadiana Task Force Chairman has been temporarily filled by Stephen Duhon.  The meeting went very well and and the Task Force also discussed numerousfund raising activities that we may be able to participate in in the near future.

Last year's Violence Prevention Expo was a huge success and the expo committee will be meeting to begin the preparation for next year's expo. The expo will most likely be held at Carencro High School. The LVPA is in the process of finding funds to bring last year's speaker Darrell Scott back to Lafayette.

The Task Force also wants to host an inter-agency expo; however a date for this has yet to be determined. Numerous ideas were discussed to draw in the community.

The group discussed possible ways to form the youth component, (YTF). Carencro High School's SADD club will likely become the host for the YTF.If you have any ideas concerning the YTF, please contact us. We want to make/create a younger violence prevention community that is as strong as ours.

The Acadiana Task Force is open to all agencies and the public, so so if you or someone that you know is interested, please feel to call us or email us for more information. 237.2090 exts. 128, 131, 132
